The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is hosting the Voices two-part conference. Phase 1 will be in Kitchener on March 1st, 2019 at the WRDSB Education Centre, and Phase 2 will take place in Waterloo on April 26 at the Conestoga College Campus in Waterloo. This conference will bring together in-risk students from each of our sixteen secondary schools as well as our U-turn alternative school to provide them with a leadership opportunity many of them will never have experienced before. We are inviting you and/or your organization to join us in this exciting initiative. We are incredibly excited to have already partnered with Overlap Associates, Conestoga College and United Taxi! We have several goals for this conference. The first is to engage this group of students by including them in the design thinking process of identifying and overcoming student engagement barriers in our schools and communities. We hope to secondarily motivate this group of in-risk students by providing opportunities for meaningful conversations and learning sessions with community leaders and peers from different schools on a variety of topics. Lastly, the conference will also provide us with the opportunity to listen to our participants’ voices about the issues and obstacles they see facing students in our secondary schools today.
